The Putnam County Probate Court is subject to Supreme Court of Georgia Chief Justice Melton’s Order Declaring a Judicial Emergency and Georgia State Law pertaining to the operation of the courts during an emergency. Consistent with the Probate Court’s understanding of these directives

  1. AN ORDER TO APPREHEND (a/k/a 1013); and
  2. ANY OTHER MENTAL HEALTH FOR INVOLUNTARY TREATMENT OR COMMITMENT; and
  3. ALL REQUESTS PERMITS FOR DISPOSITION OF HUMAN REMAINS; and
  4. AN ORDER FOR EMERGENCY LETTERS OF GUARIANSHIP AND CONSERVATORSHIP OF AN ALLEDGED INCOMPETENT ADULT; and
  5. ALL BIRTH CERTIFICATES; and
  6. ALL DEATH CERTIFICATES; and
  7. ALL MARRIAGE LICENSES; and
  8. ACCESS TO PUBLIC RECORDS; and
  9. ALL NON-EMERGENCY PROBATE MATTERS.

If you are currently a Putnam County Weapons Carry License holder and your permit is set to expire during this time period, please be advised that licenses that expire on their face during the emergency period will remain in effect during the emergency period.

Where to Find Us

Putnam County Courthouse

We are located on the third floor of the Putnam County Courthouse in the East Wing, Room 318. The public entrance is on the Marion Street side of the courthouse. There is a handicap accessible parking lot on the Sumter Street side of the courthouse. Handicapped individuals may enter from the Sumter Street entrance of the courthouse by ringing a buzzer for entry by the deputies. Upon entry to the courthouse you will have to pass through the security check point.

What is the Jurisdiction of the Probate Court?

The Probate Court jurisdiction includes estates, wills, administration, guardianships and incapacity issues. We issue marriage licenses, firearm licenses, vital records, including birth and death records. The Probate Judge performs marriage ceremonies subject to availability. Crisis intervention services are available through involuntary commitment and document preparation for temporary protective orders. We are an acceptance agent for United States Passports.
